Paladin [CRUSADER_H 4015]

Paladins are defensive paragons. As transcendents, they're able to obtain Sacrifice and the entirity of their defensive skill suite (Guard, Shield Reflect, Defending Aura), a task unachievable by Crusaders. Additionally, Rapid Smiting or Gloria Domini, depending on preference to STR or DEX, provide an offensive skill that is complimented by defensive line bonuses, e.g. Magic Strings and Impressive Riff.

If they forgo Sacrifice in favor of Grand Cross, they are able to obtain Battle Chant. Battle Chant, although unreliable, can provide some of the most powerful bonuses (to allies) and penalties (to enemies) available. Despite this, with patience, players are able to utilize Battle Chant to devestating effect, e.g. Guillotine Fist with +100% SP or Spiritual Potion Creation II with +20 all stats. While it is possible to obtain both Sacrifice and Battle Chant, the latter dispels all beneficial effects on the user inclusive of the defensive skill suite, leaving only the party damage intercept. However, this skill composition has PvM merit where the defensive skill suite has limited usefulness relative to Battle Chant bonuses.
